Vulnerability
According to the CFSVA, vulnerability refers to the full range of factors that expose households and make them susceptible to specific hazards. A hazard is the probability of a potentially damaging phenomenon (shock) within a given period. Risks result from the interactions between hazards and vulnerable conditions. They can be understood as the combination of the probability of a defined hazard and the magnitude of the expected losses to food security.
According to the Food Insecurity and Vulnerability Information and Mapping Systems (FIVIMS) framework, the degree of vulnerability is determined by the exposure to potential shocks or actual risk by the ability to cope with stressful situations.
